What does MRI mean?
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It’s a test that uses magnets and radio waves (not radiation) to create highly detailed images of your body’s internal structures.
Do I need to do anything before the scan?
Yes. You’ll be asked to remove anything metal, like earrings, zippers, or eyeglasses, which can interfere with the scan. Wear comfortable clothes without metal, or we’ll give you a gown.
Will the scan hurt?
Not at all! You’ll lie on a cushioned table that slides into the MRI machine. It’s painless—you just need to stay still. You’ll hear some loud knocking sounds, but we’ll give you earplugs or headphones to help with that.
How long will it take?
Most scans take about 25 to 60 minutes, depending on what your doctor is looking for.
Is it safe?
MRI is very safe for most people. But it’s important to tell us if you have any implants, like a pacemaker or hearing device, so we can keep you safe and get the best images possible.
