What Is an MRI?
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. This advanced diagnostic tool uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed, high-resolution images of the body’s internal structures, without any exposure to ionizing radiation, unlike X-rays or CT scans.
How Do I Prepare for an MRI?
Before your scan, you'll need to remove metal items like jewelry, glasses, or hairpins, as metal can interfere with the machine. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing free of metal, or we’ll provide a gown for your comfort and safety.
What Happens During the Scan?
You’ll lie on a motorized table that gently slides into the MRI machine. The process is completely painless, though you’ll hear some loud knocking or tapping sounds during the scan. Don’t worry—ear protection is provided to keep you comfortable.
How Long Will It Take?
Most MRI scans last between 25 and 60 minutes, depending on the area being imaged and the level of detail needed.
Is MRI Safe?
MRI is a safe and non-invasive procedure. However, if you have implants like pacemakers, metal fragments, or hearing devices, it’s important to tell your provider before the scan to ensure your safety and optimal image quality.
